Apologies for absence were submitted on behalf of Councillors Trevor Bates, David A Bithell, Krista Childs, Dana Davies, Mike Davies, D J Griffiths, Carrie Harper, Kevin Hughes, R Alun Jenkins, Gwenfair Jones, Hugh Jones, Marc Jones, M C King OBE, John McCusker and Rondo Roberts.

Honorary Freedom of the County Borough of Wrexham:

To confer upon the RAF in Wales, the Honorary Freedom of the County Borough of Wrexham under the provisions of Section 249 (5) of the Local Government Act 1972.

 

 

 

 

Please note – Members of the Council are requested to arrive at The Guildhall by not later than 3.40pm in order to robe.

RESOLVED: That

 

We the Mayor and Councillors of Wrexham County Borough Council being mindful of the glorious achievements and traditions of the Royal Air Force in Wales, over many years of devoted Service to our Sovereign and Country:

 

and in special appreciation and remembrance of all men and women of the County Borough of Wrexham who serve or have served in the Forces of the Crown and of those whose gallant deeds have brought honour to the Principality of Wales;

 

and to recognise the Centenary of the formation of the Royal Air Force during World War One and honour all those who fell during that and subsequent conflicts;   

 

and being at the same time desirous of perpetuating the close bond of friendship and support between the Royal Air Force in Wales and this County Borough and of according to them a perpetual welcome;

 

in pursuance of s249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972 do hereby confer the Honorary Freedom of the County Borough of Wrexham County Borough upon the Royal Air Force in Wales and thereby bestow the rights, privileges, honours and distinctions which are enjoyed by Freemen of the County Borough of Wrexham.

 

ACCEPTANCE

 

In consequence thereof the Mayor asked Air Commodore Adrian Williams on behalf of the Royal Air Force in Wales, to accept the highest Honour which this Council could confer on them.

 

Air Commodore Adrian Williams signified the Royal Air Force in Wales’ acceptance of admission as Freemen of the County Borough by signing the Freemen Register.

Minutes:

Lee Robinson, Executive Director, Place  introduced the item and commented that the purpose of the meeting was to confer upon the RAF in Wales, the Honorary Freedom of the County Borough of Wrexham under the provisions of Section 249 (5) of the Local Government Act 1972.

 

It was moved by the Worshipful the Mayor, seconded by the Deputy Mayor and unanimously –

 

RESOLVED: That
