Minutes:

The Chief Officer Planning & Regulatory submitted a report in respect of the above-mentioned application and the Head of Service explained the proposal to Members of the Committee.

The Local Member (Councillor Rob Walsh) indicated his objection to the application as, in his opinion, although it complied with the relevant rules and regulations, he felt the location of the sign was unsafe as it was on a potentially dangerous bend in the road.  He requested that the application be refused on the grounds of highway safety and visual impact on the area.

The other Local Member (Councillor Bryan Apsley) also indicated his objection to the application, as he didn’t feel there had been an accurate reflection of what the sign would look like.  He sought clarification over which regulations had been referred to by the Officer.

During consideration of the report, Members were reminded of the need to ensure that if they resolved to refuse the application, then they would have to be mindful of the nature and substance of any potential appeal which would need to be defended.

RESOLVED – Advertisement consent be GRANTED  in accordance with the recommendation of the Chief Officer Planning & Regulatory.
