To consider the report of the Chief Officer Governance & Customer

Additional documents:

Minutes:

The Chief Officer Governance & Customer submitted a report (COGC/43/19s) to assist the Committee in considering and agreeing its work programme.

In considering the report Members made reference to the Performance of Wrexham Pupils/Schools in the Academic Year 2018/19 report to be considered at the November meeting.  It was noted that the report would provide verified information in relation to performance from Foundation Phase to Key Stage 3, however Key Stage 4 verified performance information would not be available until early in 2020.  Accordingly Members agreed to amend the scheduling of items on the work programme to split the report across two meetings.

The Lead Member reported that clarification was being sought from the Education Minister in respect of the role of scrutiny in evaluating the performance of schools, in light of changes in required data collection, and he agreed to share with Committee members a list of questions to be submitted to the Minister at a meeting next week.

AGREED – That, subject to the following changes, the work programme be agreed:

14 November 2019 –

Performance of Wrexham Pupils/Schools in the Academic Year 2018/19 (Foundation Phase to Key Stage 3)

12 March 2020 –

Preparation for Implementing the New Curriculum and ALN Reform Act

Performance of Wrexham Pupils/Schools in the Academic Year 2018/19 (Key Stage 4)
